While the primary objective of Walking Football is (you guessed it) no running; the Golden Rules of the sport state:

  • Running or jogging is not permitted.

  • The ball is dead upon reaching head height.

  • Heading the ball is not permitted.

  • Tackles from behind are not permitted.

  • Intentional physical contact is not permitted.

  • There is no offside rule.

  • Outfield players can score from anywhere on the field.

  • A goal cannot be scored directly from a restart.

  • Opposition players must be 3m from the ball for all restarts.

  • Goalkeepers must throw the ball using an underarm action.

  • Goalkeepers must not leave their goal area.

  • Outfield players must not enter either goal area.

  • Do not argue with the referee.


To keep things running smoothly on and off the field, it’s important that every player reads and understand all of the rules of Walking Football before putting on their walking shoes.
