Member Profile - Mark Milne

Many of you know long-time WFB Inc member Mark Milne who used to play at Coorparoo but is now a regular fixture at our Club Oxley venue.  What some of you may not know is that Mark was once a very promising young footballer who, in the early 1980s, played sweeper for the Brisbane Lions NSL team.  Tragically, Mark’s professional footballing career was cut short by a car accident in 1985 which left him with acquired brain injury.  Not to be deterred, as soon as Mark was physically able to play football again, he tried out for and was selected in the Australian 7-a-Side Football team for the 1988 Seoul Paralympic Games.  A team which Mark, as captain, helped take to a 5th place finish, just missing out on the medal rounds.  However, representing Australia in just one sport was not enough for Mark, so he also tried out for the Paralympic Track and Field Team and qualified in Shot Put, an event in which he finished a very creditable 6th.  Since that time, Mark has competed in many national and international sporting events and has won many medals.

Today, Mark enjoys playing walking football, which he does with skill and a cheeky sense of humour.
